The Failures of Environmental Education in Korea(summary)

The Failures of Environmental Education in Korea : the Causes and Effects

Most people believe that environmental education has made impressive achievements in South Korea.  However, in real educational fields, many people don't think that the environmental education in Korea has had many successful achievements. This fact shows that the evidence of environmental education in Korea is not efficient because of various reasons.
The one cause of the failure of education is the shortage of hands-on educational facilities and materials. The second cause of the failure of environmental education is the insufficiency of leaders or teachers and most regular schools don't concentrate on the subjects of environmental education.
The one effect of the failure of environmental education is that most people believe that they know the importance of environment very well, but in reality, they don't know the importance of environment. Another effect of the failure of environmental education is that most people don't practice an eco-friendly life style.

In conclusion, in order to reform the problems of environmental education, we must redesign environmental education programs, change modern people's consumption patterns to eco-friendly lifestyle, implement environmental subjects, as a regular subject, into traditional schools, and enhance the government's role and NGO's participation.
